The PRE Horse: PURA RAZA ESPANOLA
In 1911 the official name for the ANDALUSIAN in Spain became Pura Raza Espanola (Pure Spanish Breed) or P.R.E. for short.
To Qualify Each Andalusian
-Must be registered with the Spanish studbook in Spain and hold a Spanish Passport, which includes the "carta" or registration certificate
-Must pass physical inspection & genetic testing as a foal
-When approved, the horse receives it's Spanish Passport that guarantees the horse's lineage & authenticity. This process is called "Inscription".
-At adulthood (age 3 or 4), it is examined again for "minimum size, quality, transmissible faults & breed fidelity." If it passes this test, only then is it said to be "apto" or accepted into the Spanish studbook for breeding purposes. This process is called "Revision."
-Andalusians are often referred to as "Iberian" or "Baroque" because the highly cultured Baroque Period (1590-1750) is credited with the birth of artistic horsemanship.
Personality: The P.R.E. is known for his willingness to please his rider and his intelligence. They have an unique ability to bond with their riders and caretakers that make them more of a partner. After serving man for three thousand years they have developed special understanding of communication with their human friends. They also, have a strong desire to seek out praise and approval.
Size: 15.2 to 16.2 hands
Colour: the majority of Andalusians are grey, white, black, bay & chestnut.
Disciplines: Pleasure, Dressage, Jumping, Cutting & Western Pleasure, Driving and traditional ranch work. They have been used in Spain for centuries to work cattle and fight bulls. They have a lot of cow sense and their natural agility makes them perfect for working cattle.
